2008 NFL Preseason “Quick Analysis”
AFC Cleveland Browns
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Stadium: Cleveland Browns Stadium
Coach: Romeo Crennel
NFL Championships: 1950, 1954, 1955 & 1964
The Cleveland Browns Browns were expecting struggle in 2007, but came away with a 10-6 record against a difficult schedule and a franchise quarterback in Derek Anderson.
Without question, the Dawg Pound gets to watch one of the NFL’s most exciting teams. Derek Anderson leads a feisty band of athletic superstars including Braylon Edwards, Donte Stallworth, Kellen Winslow, and Jamal Lewis.
Anderson helped the development of Braylon Edwards as a real receiving threat and Kellen Winslow, Jr. remained one of the top tight ends in the football. The Browns have benefited from the resurgence of Jamal have added Donte Stallworth to make a dangerous offense downright scary.
The defense struggled last season, making that offense necessary. This season the addition of defensive linemen Corey Williams and Shaun Rodgers hopes to make the Browns defense be some what resistant to scoring. The corner position is still a problem, but the Brandon McDonald and Eric Wright are still young and learning. This will be the second season for both players and they could make a huge jump that could help Cleveland find a way into the playoffs.
Some Cleveland Browns history: The original Browns were one of the NFL's most consistent teams, posting just 12 losing records in 46 seasons. Head coach Paul Brown collected three league championships and seven division titles from 1950 to 1962. Cleveland joined the NFL in 1950 and immediately captured the first of six consecutive division crowns and the NFL title. (The Super Bowl was not played until 1967.) The team also won NFL titles in 1954 and 1955.
